Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of VRAIN-A, which consists of Independent HMD-based Immersive Virtual Reality Content(ADL Activity Program), on stroke patients¡¯ activities of daily living, depression, quality of life, and self-efficacy. From September to November 2021, the study was conducted on 20 patients within 1 year of being diagnosed with stroke hemiparesis at two rehabilitation hospitals in Daegu.
Independent HMD-based Immersive Virtual Reality Content (VRAIN-A) was developed through industry-academia joint technology by Daegu Health College and Vinetree Soft. Cognitive rehabilitation content based on ADL consists of training in I-ADL such as using public transportation, preparing meals, shopping, taking care of pets, managing finances, and operating a car. Participants participated in a total of 24sessions, 3times a week for 8weeks. As a result, a statistically significant improvement in ADL was observed (p<0.05). Additionally, there was a statistically significant change in depression and quality of life (p<0.05). Positive changes in anxiety and quality of life, which are important factors in the return of stroke patients, will be a major change for independent performance in daily life. The greatest clinical significance of this study is that Independent HMD-based Immersive Virtual Reality Content, which was planned and created through the ideas of an occupational therapist, was directly used in clinical settings and its effectiveness was confirmed. In the future, we hope that Independent HMD-based Immersive Virtual Reality Content can be used by patients as an effective digital treatment in the field of professional rehabilitation.
